Week 7: Searching for pots and good ideas

We pride ourselves on our ‘can-do’ attitude to everything, especially our confidence in taking on challenging community assignments. This week we are facing a big challenge, working on the Frome Independence Day assignment, which involves catering for 200 people and promoting local food at the conference.

We are learning about the hard stuff; Food and Environmental Health regulations, risk assessments, testing recipes, coordinating diverse local food suppliers, finding certified kitchens and big enough pots… First of all, ‘hats off’ to the Project Managers of this assignment, Camilla and Harry. We are looking forward to the reflections about their learning. And to the party after we are done! We are also looking forward to reflect and learn more as an organisation about how we can support our participants to take on challenging community assignments.

We have also started this week to gather more ideas for our next major assignment. As a group we are developing a 10-minutes performance piece for Frome Hub Club. All profits will go to local good causes.

Our week ‘ended’ this Monday, with Temujen returned from her bike ride from Brighton to Frome (!!), time for reflections, a workshop on portfolio making and demonstrating learning with Jeremy Le Fevre, a brilliant lunch with some much appreciated guests, and Councillor Peter Macfadyen speaking to the group on “what makes projects and community events work in Frome”.
