The UK’s first SHARE shop is a “Library of Things” where local residents can borrow DIY and household equipment, as well as toys, instruments, and other things. The aim of SHARE is to get people spending less, wasting less and connecting more. By doing this, people can save money, reduce carbon and waste, and cultivate a happier, more resilient community.
The idea for SHARE was born in early 2015, as a partnership between Edventure, Frome Town Council, Sustainable Frome and The Cheese and Grain.
The set up of the shop was undertaken by a team of just 8 students, in just two months, as part of their training in community entrepreneurship on Edventure: Frome’s Start-Up Course. Much help was given by the local community in the form of advice, expertise, time, donations, opinions and enthusiasm.
