‘Feeling Dressed’ – workshop with Dr Lucy Gundry (Sustainable Fashion Week)
Join Dr Lucy Gundry for a round table conversation to look through ‘our eyes only’ at pieces of dress from the archives of Frome Museum.
We will visually unpick how pieces made by both men and women were made, worn, repaired and re-worn over time … what it felt like to wear these pieces and why loved clothes last.
The Feeling Dressed Workshops take place at Frome Museum for a limited audience of 12 people.
Donations to the Frome Museum box are welcomed after the workshop: suggested donation £10, but please only pay what you can.
Dr Lucy Gundry is an Associate Lecturer in Mixed Media Textiles on BA Creative Arts Practice at Bath Spa University. Lucy is interested in the relationship between body, dress and self as a fabricated skin, formed through the act of dressing and worn out in the everyday. Her doctoral research focused on the haptic aesthetics of dress as grasped communication observed through seeing but not touching dress in the museum. Current research interests include ‘rescuing’ dress through ‘wear wise’ initiatives and teaching through meaning.
Everyone Needs Pockets is a growing network of 150+ makers, designers, stitchers, knitters, sustainable fashion fans and researchers. You might be a mender, a maker or just someone who loves clothes. You don’t need skills, only the desire to find out more!
Everyone Needs Pockets is working in partnership with Future Shed (Edventure Frome) to host events and activities as part of Sustainable Fashion Week 2023. SFW is the only fashion week of its kind, bringing the community together to take creative action and change the fashion system.
Frome Museum is free, but as they are run entirely by volunteers and receive no regular financial support, all donations are much appreciated.
The building is listed and there are certain areas that are unfortunately unable to be improved. The building is not suitable for wheeled users as there are steps at the entrance and between galleries.
Toilets are available but they have no disabled facilities. There are public toilets, including a disabled toilet, in the Market Yard car park close to the Museum.
Please phone Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 2pm with any enquiries about accessing Frome Museum – 01373 454611
