Have an idea for a business and want to make it happen?
Enterprising Together is a hands-on course for anyone with a business idea they would like to bring to life.
We will provide you with the tools, skills, and knowledge you need to start your business journey – both the process of developing and testing business ideas and skills such as business planning, financial planning and branding.
You’ll work on your own idea every week to gain real momentum and progress.
No textbooks, experience, or qualifications needed. Just curiosity, motivation, and an idea you’d like to test.
What To Expect
You will put your learning into practice each week and make tangible progress on your idea. The course combines practical workshops and fast-paced ‘sprints’ that prioritise you taking action, with the benefits of accountability, encouragement, and support that come from working in a group of peers. You might spend the bulk of the day developing your value proposition and the final part of the day reflecting on progress and supporting each other.
Leave the course feeling more skilled and knowledgeable, as part of a supportive community, and with increased confidence, resilience, resourcefulness, and momentum to continue bringing your idea to life.
This course is introductory in level and is for everyone, no matter your background or stage of life.

Meet a supportive group of people who, like you, are ready to turn their ideas into action. Plus, get clear on your level of ambition and on what you want from the experience of starting your business, so that you can prioritise yourself as well as your customers’ needs.
Take action on your idea

Think through your idea from a customer’s point of view and get clear on the problems you’re solving and the value you’re creating for them. Build a simple, tangible version of your idea – your minimum viable product, to test what parts of your idea work and what parts need adjusting.
Learning core skills

Get an introduction to essentials like financial management, business planning, and branding. Pull together a first set of numbers and think through what they mean for your idea. Understand what a business plan is, how it can help you and start creating one with everything you have learnt so far. Finally, do some good enough for now branding and avoid this common obstacle to action.

Define a next goal that feels right for you, whether that means iterating your idea further, going a little bigger, promoting your offer more broadly or applying for funding. Use the support of the group and the accountability of the course to build the habit of prioritising action by planning, doing, reflecting and going again.

Colin is an experienced trainer and coach who helps people turn business ideas into action. By blending structured learning with empathetic support, he gives you the tools, confidence and clarity to push your business forward.

Diane first connected with Edventure in 2019 through an Incubation course, creating a community nursery and then moving confidently into self-employment in garden design. In 2025, Diane joined Enterprising Women to find space to reflect and redefine her role: designing meaningful gardens for women in transition. That support clarified her purpose and work.

Ben joined an Edventure Enterprising Course and co-created Loop Frome, a local Community Interest Company focused on soil regeneration and the circular economy. After Edventure, Ben continued to work with Loop which he helped to set up as part of his course and is also now a Frome Town Councillor.

Sophie Bee joined Enterprising Women to develop a course to support those who wish to facilitate Girls' Circles - a dedicated space for tween girls to navigate a transformational time in their lives through connection, creativity, and menstrual education. Sophie really valued the community, support, and encouragement from the group and left with more confidence and momentum in her self-employment journey.

Lily joined an Edventure Enterprising Course to help tackle food waste in Frome that led to us setting up the first UK Community Fridge. She went on to set up The Pitney Farm cafe to help people reconnect with where their food comes from, selling local, organic veg and running community events.

Camilla joined an Edventure Enterprising course. After Edventure, Camilla set up a traditional sign writing business, and went on to become a director at the Flameworks, a community arts centre in Plymouth.
FAQs
Who is Enterprising Together for?
Enterprising Together is for anyone who wants to test their idea and give it momentum.
We are looking for a range of people with diverse backgrounds and skills who are motivated and are up for a challenge.
Previous participants have been a wide range of ages, from 19 to 59. Some left school at 16 and others have been to university. Some have just started work and others have had long careers already. Some have been or are craftspeople or artists, and others have worked in the public or private sectors. Our courses are designed to be inclusive and welcoming environments, and meeting people you might not normally meet is part of the fun and the learning experience.
What if I don’t live in Frome or Somerset?
You don't need to live in Frome or Somerset to join Enterprising Together, as long as you can make the commute in once a week to join us at the Edventure Hub, Frome, BA11 2LE.
However, for this course, to apply for a funded place (at no cost to you), you must be a Somerset resident and meet other criteria. Please see the cost section below.
If you want to arrange temporary accommodation in Frome or nearby, Edventure can assist you with a search (often at a reduced rate), please feel free to speak to us about this.
Participating in one of our courses offers a chance to immerse yourself in the course and Frome. There are many exciting and innovative community initiatives to discover – as well as past Enterprising projects there is Green and Healthy Frome – an innovative partnership focused on community-led health and climate solutions – Sustainable Frome, The Independent Market, Independents for Frome who run our council, and many more. Frome is renowned for the strength of its community action and will undoubtedly inspire you as to what’s possible in your life and future and where you live. Have a look at what’s on.
Are there any costs?
You can join Enterprising Together with a paid or fully-funded (free to you) place.
The course cost is £2500. If you live in Somerset (excluding BANES) and are on income below £25,000, or are in a priority area for support, you could qualify for a fully-funded place. This bursary, provided by Somerset Council, covers your course fee entirely. We will guide you through this process.
If you would like to buy your own place, you can buy a standard place at £2500, or if you join before September, an early bird place at just £1950.

If cost is a barrier to you, and you are not able to access the fully-funded place, reach out to us at hello@edventurefrome.org, and we can look at making appropriate adjustments to help you participate.
What is the project or idea I’ll be working on?
You will be working on your own idea, initiative, or project, alongside others doing the same, with support from the group.
Before you join, we’ll invite you to a chat or an in-person meeting. This is a chance for you to get to know Edventure, and for us both to check whether the course is the right fit for you.
In some cases, we may decline an application if your business idea does not align with our Ethical Policy or our core values.
Do I need to attend every week?
You should aim to attend every week, but we understand that sometimes you may not be able to.
Where is the course run from?
The course runs from the Edventure Hub, Park Hill Drive, Frome BA11 2LE.
The Edventure Hub was one of our first Enterprising projects, created by an adult student team. It’s a community co-working space full of activity, maker spaces, plants and much more. Feel free to drop in during a weekday and take a look — we’ll happily show you around. Unfortunately, access to the Hub is by a flight of stairs.
Can I try Edventure first?
Absolutely, you are welcome to pop over to the home of Edventure, The Edventure Hub, which was one of our first projects. It’s a community co-working space full of activity, community groups, plants and much more. The address is Edventure Hub, Park Hill Drive, Frome BA11 2LE. Book a free tour here.
How do I join, express my interest, or ask questions?
The next course date is confirmed, and we will start this September 11th, 2026. Before enrolling, we ask you to book an informal call with us. It's a chance for you to get to know Edventure, ask any questions you may have, and for us to check together whether the course is the right fit for you. We'll then invite you to formally enrol after that.
