Printing at the Hub

This page is a guide for Hub members to use the printer, and purchase a £5 printer card.

Everything you need to print, scan, and copy at Edventure Hub. If you’re new, start with the Quick Start below.

The printer is located between The Remakery and The Cave. Its name is Brother MFC-J6957DW.

Quick Start (first print)

  1. Buy a £5 printer card from James or another member of Edventure staff, or order one online through SumUp (button below). You’ll use this to pay for your printing.
  2. Connect to the WiFi network called WelshMillHubFibre New.
  3. Install the printer drivers (recommended). Download them here and enter the model name MFC-J6957DW if prompted. This makes connecting smoother and avoids most first-time issues.
  4. Print as normal from your device, selecting the Brother printer.
  5. Tick off the cost on your card after each print job (see costs below).

A few asks

  • Print double-sided where possible to save paper and keep costs down.
  • Collect your prints promptly. The printer sits in a shared space, so please don’t leave sensitive or personal documents sitting in the tray.
  • Switch to black and white in your print dialogue if you don’t need colour. See the cost table below.

How payment works

Printing is prepaid using a £5 printer card, which is a paper grid of boxes worth 5p each.

After each print job, tick off the number of boxes that match the cost. For example, one A4 colour print (20p) is four boxes.

It’s an honesty system with no digital restriction, so please keep your card topped up.

Failed prints don’t count, so don’t tick off anything that didn’t come out properly.

Costs per side

Black and White:

  • A4: 5p per side
  • A3: 10p per side

Colour:

  • A4: 20p per side
  • A3: 40p per side

Printing by email (no setup needed)

Printing by email (no setup needed)

  1. Start a new email
  2. Attach the file you want to print
  3. Send it to 47558465308@print.brother.com

This is Brother’s official email-to-print address for our machine. By default, the printer prints both the email body and any attachments, so if you only want the attachment, send an email with an empty body.

Supported attachments: PDF, TXT, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, JPEG, BMP, GIF, PNG, TIFF. PDFs give the most reliable results. You can attach up to 10 files totalling 20MB per email.

Printing starts as soon as the email arrives.

Printing from your phone or tablet

  1. Download the Brother Mobile Connect app from the App Store or Google Play
  2. Make sure your phone is on the Hub WiFi, not mobile data
  3. Open the app and follow the prompts to connect to the Brother printer

Scan directly to your email

You can scan a document straight to your email address from the printer’s touchscreen.

  1. On the printer’s home screen, swipe right until you see the Apps icon (a blue box). Tap it and wait a moment for it to load.
  2. Tap the third button down, “Easy Scan to E-mail“.
  3. If you’ve used this before, tap your name. Otherwise, tap Edit Account, then Register Account, and follow the prompts to enter your email address, a display name, and (optionally) a PIN code to protect your account.
  4. Choose a file format: PDF, JPEG, Word, Excel, or PowerPoint. PDF is a safe default, or JPEG if you want an image.
  5. The default scan settings are usually fine. If your document is double-sided, and you’re using the automatic feeder, scroll down and turn on two-sided scan. Tap OK.
  6. Place your document and tap OK. After each page, tap Continue to add more or Finish when done. The scan will arrive in your inbox.

Tip: Use the automatic feeder for speed if you have lots of pages. Use the scanner glass for precious documents or anything that isn’t a standard size. The feedback can rarely jam.

Copying

  1. Place your document in the automatic document feeder or face down on the scanner glass
  2. On the printer’s touchscreen, tap Copy
  3. Choose your settings (colour or black and white, number of copies)
  4. Tap Start

Paper

Trays 1 & 2: Loaded with A4 paper (80g/m²).

Tray 3: Loaded with A3 paper (80g/m²) and has a plastic cover to keep the paper dust-free.

Printing on card or special paper

If you want to use other printing stock than that provided, please check with the Hub Host.

Any paper or card in the manual feed (rear) overrides the paper in the trays, so remove any leftover sheets when you’re done.

Troubleshooting

Printer won’t respond or has frozen

  1. Turn the printer off using the power button
  2. After 30 seconds, switch it off at the wall
  3. Wait another 30 seconds, then turn it back on
  4. Try your print again

Your device can’t find the printer

  • Check you’re on WelshMillHubFibre New WiFi, not a different network or mobile data
  • If you had the old printer installed, remove it from your device’s printer settings and add the new one (same model name)
  • Try the email-to-print method as a workaround

Paper jam

Follow the instructions on the printer’s touchscreen. If you’re unsure, ask a member of staff rather than forcing anything.
