Work with us: we’re looking for a Young People’s Climate Action Project Coordinator
As part of Green and Healthy Frome, Edventure’s Future Shed builds networks and community groups focused on community-led climate and health action, as part of a partnership programme between Edventure, Frome Medical Practice and Frome Town Council.
This year, we want to enable young people to be a central part of our programme of work, and to be given the opportunity to start a community that will grow and develop. This project will focus on the younger generation, particularly those aged 12-18, with a project that gives them agency, creativity and opportunity to make things happen that they want to see and do.
To achieve this, we are inviting applications for a Young People’s Climate Action Project Coordinator to lead on activating and developing the project, with the support of Green & Healthy Frome.
Edventure’s Future Shed and the Climate Action and Young People’s Teams at Frome Town Council want to support this important initiative through Green and Healthy Frome in the light of climate change and the future of our town and community.
Young People’s Climate Action Project:
- To support the creation of a group of ‘Youth Climate Action Allies’, aged 12 – 18 yrs to work as a core group
- This core group or team will generate actions or activities to engage other young people in Frome to get involved, acting as allies or champions for climate-related activities, according to what they would like to see happen
- Led by young people for other young people
- Use a supporting pot of funding for activities outside of school hours, to be designed and allocated by the young people
- Drawing on existing groups and Eco-Councils in Frome schools, home education groups and other young people’s organisations around Frome
- Seed and develop a movement and organisation by and for young people, supported by key organisations in the town, working in this area, including the Climate Action Lead and Children and Young People’s Project Officer at Frome Town Council
Aims of the Young People’s Climate Action Project:
- Give opportunities to young people to learn new skills, to make things happen and to gain volunteering experience
- Give a platform to young voices, ideas and initiatives
- Create positive energy and forward momentum
- Peer to peer learning and engagement
- Strengthen inter-generational relationships
- Connect existing green movements in schools around Frome and LCNs
- Provide a rolling structure for continued young people’s engagement
- Support other young people and school staff, and youth group leaders to get involved and learn
Coordinator Role:
- Scope out, connect and support the formation of Young Climate Action Allies core team
- Support the creation of a group identity and vision
- Enable the group and young people to take agency and decisions and make things happen that they want to see and do
- Support young people decision making and activities with an activity budget
- Work with Edventure Future Shed team and Green and Healthy Frome team
- Liaise with staff at Frome Town Council – the Climate Action Lead, and Children and Young People’s Project Officer Children
- Initiate outreach and communications with other young people’s groups and projects eg Home education groups
- Finding other supporters / allies / enablers for projects that young people want to do
- Link to the different partners in Green and Healthy Frome and linking to any projects and networks that young people would like to connect to
Skills, knowledge and experience:
- Enthusiastic and energised by working with and supporting young people, particularly aged 12-18 years
- Creativity and imaginative thinking
- Excellent communication skills
- Good networker and interested in community building
- The ability to engage young people’s communities and groups and support them to organise activities
- Working with others, and partnership working
- Well-organised and able to work independently, with an ability to prioritise while working on a variety of tasks
- Proactive, and able to work responsively and flexibly according to opportunity and need
- Understanding of climate change, of what equity and inclusivity mean
- Understanding of safeguarding needs for this age group
The role would suit someone with experience of working with young people, of working in or with schools, running and hosting workshops with younger people, community events and participation, environmental education, climate action, or a mix of these.

Fee, schedule and delivery:
- £150 p/d x 50 days over 10 months (April-Jan) = £7500 total
- This fee is in line with Edventure’s Future Shed residency rates and parity as part of Green & Healthy Frome
- This is a flexible working freelance role contract with Edventure Frome CIC
- There will be a small expenses budget available for resources
- April 2025 to January 2026, with the possibility of additional paid time allocated depending on the uptake and traction of the project
- Working flexibly and responsively in term time and school holidays
- This role is on a freelance basis so the successful candidate would need to invoice us for work carried out (Self-employed status)
- Enhanced DBS required
- Based in Frome and the surrounding villages
Reporting
- Directly to Edventure: Frome’s Green & Healthy Frome project manager and/or Edventure’s Future Shed Lead

- Application deadline: 12 noon Thursday 27 March
- Interviews with shortlisted applicants will take place in the first or second week of April
Appointment and project start
- To meet our timescales we would anticipate this role starting from mid April onwards, or post Easter holiday break.
